Your Role: Making an Everyday Difference
As a CYPA, you will support the care and development of children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years. Your duties will evolve as you advance through the program’s career ladder. At the Entry-Level, you will assist with planning daily activities using provided materials, ensure a welcoming and safe environment, and meet the physical needs of children. This level is ideal for those beginning a career in early childhood education, requiring no prior experience.
At the Intermediate-Level, you will coordinate daily schedules, implement activity plans, and communicate program updates with parents and staff. At the Target-Level, you will lead and facilitate structured and spontaneous activities, design inclusive programs for children with special needs, and oversee equipment and supply management.
Qualifications for Success
The Air Force provides a structured development path with specific requirements for each level. All candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent. The Entry-Level position requires no experience, offering an excellent starting point in federal service. The Intermediate-Level requires six months of experience in a group child program and completion of designated training modules or 15 semester hours of related college coursework. The Target-Level requires six months of experience at the intermediate level plus advanced training or 30 semester hours of college education, including 15 hours in early childhood education, youth development, or a related discipline.
