What You’ll Be Doing at Health Canada Research Affiliate Program

As a key member of our research team, you’ll dive into hands-on lab work that directly supports a Genomics Research and Development Initiative project. This project is exploring the health risks associated with high doses of folic acid, and your findings will have a direct impact on public health.

Your day-to-day work will be a dynamic mix of cutting-edge science and practical analysis :

  • You’ll use advanced molecular biology techniques to explore markers of genome stability.

  • You will conduct microbiological assays to assess tissue folate levels.

  • You’ll get hands-on experience with genome-wide sequencing (RNA-seq) to understand gene expression.

  • You will flex your analytical muscles by performing statistical and bioinformatics analyses on complex datasets.

This is a chance to apply your academic knowledge in a real-world setting, all while completing the research requirements for your degree.

What It Takes to Succeed

We are looking for motivated students who are ready to learn and contribute. To be the right fit, you’ll need :

  • To be a full-time student enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program at Carleton University’s Department of Biology (or a related field).

  • A solid foundation, with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant natural science field.

  • Previous experience working in a molecular or cellular biology lab.

  • A good grasp of biostatistics principles.

  • Initiative, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit.

Experience with animal models or bioinformatics is a plus, but your passion for science and your willingness to learn are what truly matter.
